Here is my Algebra goals and reflection

I need to explain what the next term of a spatial pattern will be. Eg 

To achieve this goal I can say which is the next number, shape or character in the pattern or I know what the next number or shape will be in the next part of the sequence. Eg the next creature is a butterfly. The next pattern will have four triangles.etc. 

I can describe what must happen for the next pattern. For example 

To achieve this goal I can say what is happening in the patterns eg You add two matches each time to make the next pattern in the sequence. It is going up by 2 each time starting from 3.   

I need a strategy to continue a pattern without drawing or building every one.

To achieve this goal I will have a strategy such as a table I can use to work out how many matchsticks there will be needed to make 10 triangles.

Each time the difference gets bigger by one so I can work out the 10th pattern without building it.

I need to be able to use a formula to work out the 100th term in a spatial or number pattern

To achieve this goal, I can use letters to represent the term in a sequence that I get from looking at a table and building a formula.  


I notice if I double the number of triangles and add 1, I get the number of matches needed so m = double p plus 1. Eg 3 x 2 = 6 plus 1 = 7.

My Algebra reflection…


Over the last couple of days we have been working on our goals AKA algebra. 

Before we looked back at our tests I was very confident with the level 3 work but then once we did a bit more work on it I moved up to level 4, once we did a bit of a workshop with Mr K I had grown my knowledge a lot and moved up to my goal AKA level 5 in level 5 you have to find a rule and when I moved out of level 4 we have to work out the rule of the patterns and table. 

On my first test I was not so confident about algebra and I got 5 out of 6 but on my recent test I got 6 out of 6 and I am very confident about algebra and working out formulas and drawing graphs up. So I think that the workshops that we did impacted my learning a lot but looking back at last year we did a lot more work on algebra so I think that has backed up my learning as well. 


What the teacher can work on… 

What Mr K has been doing over this term has helped my a bit but I think that he could make some more challenging things to do on mathletics or just in general, because if I don't have challenging work then I don't learn much but on the other hand If I had a bit more challenging work then I would be able to challenge myself and be learning things at the same time. 

But other than that I have learnt quite a bit but I would of learnt a bit more if my work was a bit more challenging.


But Overall I have learnt a lot of things but some things just need to be a bit harder to challenge me.

Here is my basic facts reflection, for term 1 and 2.

 Basic Facts Graph Term 1 and 2.

This graph shows the progress made by students over Terms 1 and 2 with their Basic Facts Tests. The aim is for students to become automatic with their knowledge of Addition and Subtraction to 20, and Multiplication and Division to 100 by the end of year 6. This will help students gain better understandings with other Strands, Concepts and Problems.

Reflection about My Basic Facts Term 1 and 2.

I think I truly improved in my basic facts knowledge, I am now moving onto my decimal knowledge.

Over the term my knowledge has expanded a lot and I have exceeded my high score and it is now 100, mathletics has probably been the biggest impact and it pushed forward my learning a lot, and I also know my 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 tables.

Here is my reflection on the brain science we did at school.

 Today The Being brainy company came to our school and taught us about the different sizes of the brain, different parts and what they are for.


We also saw a cat's brain, rats brain and human brain, the cats and rats brain were frozen and polished because if they weren't then they would be squishy and disintegrate, there was also a rat's brain that was in water because it hadn't been polished. 


We learnt about what the different parts of the brain are and what they are for eg, the left side of the brain controls the right side of the body. 

We also did an activity and there was a mirror and we had to look in it to trace a star without looking at the paper, then we had to try to write our name looking in the mirror and not from memory. 

Then we had to do a task and we had a coat on with buttons and we had to try and button it up with our hand we don’t write with and we had to do that in 2 minutes, it was very stressful but I only did one button up. 

Overall I thought it was a great experience and I learnt a lot from it.

Here is my EAsttle on music vs sports.

 Music vs sports,


Do you think music is better than sports? Well let me explain to you why sport is better. 


Just imagine, running down the field with your heart pumping through your chest while everyone else on the field is pumping up behind you, finally you get the chance to shoot, it's thrilling isn't it?


If you compare music to sports, sports is an easy win. 

Music is something and you have to be good at it to do it, don't you? But in sports there is a huge range of different choices, eg football. Because if you don't like running too much then defender is for you. But if you can't do something in music there aren't many choices.  


If you still don't believe me, here are the muscles you use for sports, and music. In sports you use most muscles to power your body through the field. But on the other hand, in most ways of doing music you just stand there and basically just sing.


Sports is also very important because you get stronger and burn calories and it is physical unlike music, and in the future it will pay off. 


There are many sports to choose from so don't worry if you haven't found your sport yet because there is a lot to choose from.


In most ways sports is just for fun, but if you're making a song you're most likely trying to compete to get the most liked song. 


But don't get offended if you think differently, because in some ways music is fun. 


Even if I didn't change your mind, at least you know my opinion.

Here is my persuasive writing to go on the Hourota Waka, by Jade.

 


Dear my fellow chiefs, 


If I got chosen to go on the Horouta Waka I would protect my iwi and strive for excellence the whole time, ( even if times get rough. )

Here are my persuasive ideas to have the honor to be aboard the waka. 


It would be a thrilling adventure to find fresh, green, luscious, untouched land and I would risk my life for the chance to find land and call it our home.  

If I were to go on the waka I would work all day every day thriving for success. 


Firstly, these are the qualities I could bring to the, I would risk my life for the chance of finding land, I would be grateful for every second on the Horouta Waka, I would be a hard working crew member and I would even appreciate the honor to guard the kuramars.


Secondly, I would be a hard working participant for at least a knot tying job on the Waka, If I get asked for a day of work at the farm the answer would be a definite yes, I would be keeping up and participating in everything that occurs. 


Lastly, I am also a great swimmer and I have won lots of medals and surf life saving competitions. That is a great quality because if someone goes overboard I could save them. 


Since you're a good chief aren't you? Well would you choose me to go on the Horouta Waka?

Here is my Tinker cad.

 


Here is my aviation museum reflection.

 Aviation Museum Report. 

This is one of the rescue helicopters. 

This is us looking at one of the fake planes that they used in a movie called Shadow Cloud. 



At the aviation museum we learned about flight, in term one we were asking questions about flight like how it works and when the first plane was made, and we finally got to answer them. 

Duane took us round in a group looking at the different planes and explaining how many engines they had and all of that stuff.

There was this big plane and each group had a turn to go up on it, the wood planks on the base were unstable and it was nerve racking walking up to the top. There was old seats and rust indented in the sides. 

The plane was frightening because it was set up on a slope.

We poked our heads out to Mrs Toon and she took a photo while there was a 15 foot drop ( estimated. )

My favourite part was looking at the Tiger Moth. It was the coolest because it was one of the two planes that could actually still fly. 

Once we had finished the tour, we said thank you and a big goodbye to the instructors.
